Grandparenting and Intergenerational Solidarity in Singapore

Demographic, social, and structural changes are transforming intergenerational relationships aging experiences in Asia. While multigenerational families have increased the duration of grandparenting has lengthened, households declined. Grandparents increasingly embedded support, care, reciprocal relationships. The paper examines cognitive affective dimensions solidarity ambivalence through lens using qualitative data from city-state Singapore. findings show that grandparents cherish their with grandchildren. phrased terms affection rather than obligation duties. Also, not co-residing weakened bonds between generations. Another finding is strong norm among interfering lives children grandchildren but being available for them.
